Guest lecture in Ioannina

This week I went to the University of Ioannina to give a short lecture and a lab demo about the use of insects in research. I really enjoyed meeting first-year Biology students, staff of the Department of Biological Applications and Technology, and of course spending time and planning future collaborations with my lovely host Lefki! Am looking forward to the next visit 🙂

First Manchester mosquito and a grant application

This is the first mosquito that eclosed in my newly-established insectary at Manchester Uni. Hope it will like its home 🙂

To have some money to support the mossies, I have submitted a Wellcome Seed Award application today. Fingers crossed the panel likes my project!

Tier 1

And just as I got back from Japan, I received an email informing me that the Royal Society has endorsed my application for the Tier 1 visa. This visa will allow me to stay in the UK for 5 years regardless of whether I have a job or not, and what employer I work for. Finally, after 11 years of living abroad, I’m not a slave of my employer any more – feels good 🙂 Now the task is not to relax too much… time flies.
